Platform Engineer specialising in AWS, Kubernetes and Terraform. I design cloud platforms and deploy on: standardised Terraform modules, container platforms on EKS and ECS/Fargate, CI/CD with built-in quality and security gates, and monitoring built around service-level objectives. I set infrastructure standards across environments, take incidents through to root-cause fixes, and help engineers onboard onto the platforms I build. I designed and delivered a production Kafka platform on EKS, now run and extended by other teams, and automated disaster-recovery testing so recovery is proven, not assumed.

AWS Serverless Reminder Application for "Arday-of-Engineers" Team

In this project, I developed a serverless application using AWS services to send reminders for the "Arday-of-Engineers" team. Using a combination of S3, API Gateway, Lambda, Step Functions, SNS, and SES, I crafted a system for sending reminder messages via both SMS and Email, utilizing AWS SES. The heart of this application is a state machine that manages its workflow, making use of Lambda functions to deliver notifications to the Arday customers.

This serverless solution loads from an S3 bucket and operates within a web browser, seamlessly communicating with Lambda and Step Functions through an API Gateway Endpoint. This application empowers users to configure reminders for 'Arday engineers,' ensuring timely and efficient communication through email.

DB Migration

In this GitHub project, I undertook a database migration initiative structured in two phases. In the initial phase, I established two Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and set up two EC2 instance webservers. One instance represented the on-premises database, while the other mimicked the cloud infrastructure. I implemented this using Terraform, an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool.

In the subsequent phase of the project, I guided the migration process, transferring both the webservers and the RDS SQL database to AWS infrastructure, which I provisioned. This project demonstrates my expertise in cloud migration and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, and it showcases my ability to manage complex cloud infrastructure projects effectively.

Site-to-Site VPN connection

Successfully implemented a Site-to-Site VPN solution for Hodan Secondary School, establishing a secure connection between their on-premise network and AWS resources, enabling seamless application migration according to school requirements.

Collaborated with a skilled colleague to efficiently divide project tasks, including infrastructure code development using Terraform, equipment procurement, and delivering project presentations. Achieved network level connectivity and supported concurrent file sharing from EC2 instances and on-premises workstations, meeting diverse project requirements.

Platform Engineer
BJSS
Leeds, UK
June 2022 - Present

In my current role as a Platform Engineer with BJSS, I am passionate about innovation and technical excellence, continually applying these principles to my projects. Currently, I'm driving continuous improvements in our build and release processes, focusing on optimizing our continuous development and deployment workflows, including feature-switching and CI/CD pipelines. This role involves a deep understanding of the precise metrics to capture, achieved through fault-finding and proactive monitoring of our cloud infrastructure.

Prior to this role, I had the privilege of contributing to BJSS's flagship project, the Cloud Accelerator, also known as the Terraform Landing Zone. This journey began with the creation of a robust sandbox environment, custom-tailored for client deployment. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, I ensured the accelerator met their specific business needs. Continuous discussions with colleagues was essential to align our solutions with client requirements and stay synchronized with the frequent updates from our cloud partner, AWS, and HashiCorp Terraform upgrades. This experience has greatly improved my current role as a Platform Engineer, where I continue to excel in delivering innovative solutions.

System Adminstrator

London, UK
July 2019 - June 2022

As a System Administrator in my previous role, I initially managed on-premises windows servers. My responsibilities included managing Active Directory, where I efficiently managed user accounts and computers while implementing group policy objects (GPO) in alignment with corporate policies. Furthermore, I specialized in maintaining and customizing client Windows images, which were deployed through SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager), and installed applications as per specific requests.

During a subsequent phase, our organization transitioned to Microsoft Azure, marking a significant shift in our infrastructure. In response, I proactively pursued training in Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and Windows Autopilot, ensuring a smooth transition and empowering our team to thrive in the cloud-based environment.
